2025
Since its inception in 1981, the London Marathon has become one of the most popular marathons in the world, with a route that takes in many of London’s best landmarks including Buckingham Palace, The Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf. We are grateful to have the support of Essien who has kindly offered to run the London Marathon on Sunday, 27 April 2025, and help us to raise funds for our mental health work in Africa.
2022
Our appreciation and thanks go to Nick Spayne for running the London Marathon on Sunday, 2 October 2022. He completed the marathon in 4 hours 36 minutes and raised over £2,000 for Network for Africa.
Afterwards, Nick said:
It was tougher than I thought but well worth doing. I am so glad I had the opportunity to run this for Network for Africa – I feel very benevolent! And a little tired!
2020
We are delighted to share the news that Alex Hale completed the virtual 40th annual London Marathon, on Sunday, 4th October 2020 and raised over £3,500 for Network for Africa.
26.2 miles equates to 42.165 kilometres and Alex ran the virtual London Marathon, as a series of eight 5ks over the course of the day with the help of his family and friends. They joined the run and helped Alex to raise much needed funds for our mental health projects. Network for Africa is incredibly grateful to you all.
2018
On Sunday, 22 April 2018 Chrystal Ding ran the London Marathon for Network for Africa and raised over £3,000.
Looking back, Chrystal told us:
I had always thought of myself as one of those people who just doesn’t get on with sport and certainly not with long distance. A week or two into training, once I had cleared the 5k mark, I realised this was nonsense. The biggest surprise to me was quite how much I would enjoy the training and the sheer joy of knowing that there was something I would do 4 times a week that would sharpen my mind and my focus and bring me peace in a way I’d never experienced before.
