Rwanda

Of those who survived the genocide, 97% witnessed the violence, and trauma has been a serious factor in holding people back from being productive at work or school. Survivors are still reeling from the aftermath of the genocide, and when international attention moves elsewhere, organisations like Network for Africa stay to offer psychological support to promote long-term recovery. Mental health services are woefully under-resourced: there is only 1 psychiatrist and 25 mental health nurses per 2,000,000 people (WHO 2011).
