- Genocide orphans created a catering business
Wanda Bakery started life as the Rwanda Multi-Learning Centre’s women’s discussion group of 70 members. From this, a smaller group of seven women began baking and selling cakes, biscuits and savoury pastries to the expatriate community in Kigali. Before long they were baking weekly and selling much of their produce to the British Embassy. Following training, they started specialising in making wedding cakes, increasing their profits. They also cooked lunch every day for the 15 full-time music students at the ReGeneration Music Centre which improved the students’ ability to concentrate and focus on their work, whist providing a modest income for the Wanda Bakery cooks.
