Pennies From Heaven

I’ll get straight to the point. A generous fan of Network for Africa will match donations up to a total of £15,000/$21,000. Please consider supporting us by clicking here.

Why support us?

Network for Africa may be small, but we achieve a great deal with modest resources because we don’t waste money on a fancy HQ, a big staff or vanity projects. We won’t be inviting you to a gala dinner because many fancy fundraising events take so much staff time to organise that they often only break even. Our staff is one full-time hero, Annabel, and three part-time angels, Lesley, Michael and Tom. They have enough on their hands already without worrying about floral centrepieces. Our focus is on giving support, training and resources to the excellent African community groups with whom we work – not paying an agency to “re-imagine our image.”

How are we making a difference?

Here are some of the things we did in 2020, despite the pandemic, in our projects in Sierra Leone, Uganda and Rwanda:

Counselling

1,756 individuals received regular, one-on-one mental health counselling sessions
263 regular group counselling sessions were held
1,340 telephone counselling sessions (due to pandemic restrictions) were given
894 people were treated at health clinics
43 care-givers were given counselling

Training

450 were trained in financial literacy & 437 were trained in managing & creating budgets for small enterprises
2,289 were educated about mental health & epilepsy, countering stigma and superstition
630 survivors of trauma were trained to advocate for their rights
24 more Rwandan counsellors were trained, bringing the total to 130
800 students at 9 schools were educated about mental health and epilepsy
24 more Rwandan health workers were trained in mental health and epilepsy
We supported 70 self-help groups
